Growing Up: A Money Smart Teen
Inspiring youth to see themselves as honored managers of God’s
financial resources by developing character and passion
to make a difference for their lifetime.
God’s gifts and your responsibility as His managers.
The Word of God has very specific lessons that teach us about money. Money is a gift from God, a privilege and not a guarantee. When we are trusted with His financial resources, we take on the responsibility as financial stewards and managers of these gifts. This session will begin with a thorough discussion of the humble attitude we must have when managing God’s financial resources and how we show gratitude to God through planned financial choices. We will discuss our responsibility as money managers and how this applies to Financial Literacy and Financial Civics.
What does it mean to be in the driver’s seat of your financial future?
We recognize that a teens greatest desire is to own a car someday. But, with that privilege comes huge responsibility. We will relate this to the responsibility of “driving” another great privilege - money. Managing money begins by recognizing that we must maintain control of our spending decisions. Attendees will participate in a hands-on activity and watch a short video that will demonstrate the pitfalls of not being “in the driver’s seat” of their money. They will learn why establishing a plan, in advance, will help them maintain self-control and avoid these pitfalls and “potholes”.
Needs vs. wants. How do we choose? How can we satisfy both?
Managing money is a balancing act. If we are not careful, we can fill our lives with too many things we want that prevents leaving room for what we need. In this section of the presentation attendees will learn how they can meet their needs and, also, leave room for things they want. This will be demonstrated through another hands-on activity they are sure not to forget. Attendees will learn how to spend, save, give and invest, wisely. Accomplishment is the name of the game here.
Growing up a wise money manager and successfully independent adult.
In the next part of this session, attendees will learn what it means to “stay in their lane” when driving a successful budget, and how a budget can be the perfect GPS they need to get them from point A (gross pay) to point B (net pay) with age-appropriate, life applicable lessons that have proven to be successful for other young people their age.
SLOW DOWN and enjoy the drive! Time is on your side.
Now that we have discussed the privilege and responsibility as God’s young money managers and how to drive a success budget, we will take a scenic route to the final point of this session. Being awarded the “license to drive” a financial budget, means knowing the speed limit before “taking the wheel” to ensure safety. Proverbs 21:5 reminds us; “The plans of the diligent leads to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” We will close the session discussing why methodical money managers slow down to appreciate delayed gratification through time value of money even at this early age.
