[post_content] => Rebecca is a homeschool mom of five kids, creator of Gather ‘Round Homeschool, owner of Homeschoolon.com, and author of the More Than Words Bible curriculum. She is a second-generation homeschooler who is passionate about sharing her successes and failures . . . to be authentic and honest that this is not always easy, but it is possible. Join her for stories from the trenches of homeschool life—a testimony of God's goodness through it all. Rebecca comes not to share a five-step plan to success, but rather a clarion call to rise up and take our rightful positions with confidence so that we might do the good work that God has called us to do. You can do this, you are not alone, and you are not here by accident. Bring a cup of coffee, we have a lot to talk about.

[post_content] => Will began his legal career working for HSLDA in January 2004 as a legal assistant to HSLDA Senior Counsel Scott Woodruff. After graduating from Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy with his Juris Doctor in 2006, he moved on to direct HSLDA’s Federal Relations department and serve as HSLDA’s federal lobbyist.
Will worked as a career federal employee in the Office for Civil Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services from 2018 to 2021. In November of 2021, he resigned from the federal government and was selected by the Board of ParentalRights.org to serve as the first full-time president of ParentalRights.org and the Parental Rights Foundation.
In June of 2023, Will decided to return to his roots at HSLDA, this time serving as a senior counsel and contact attorney for HSLDA members in the states of California, Wyoming, Illinois, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. He works to make homeschooling possible for thousands of member families and hundreds of thousands of homeschool students by advocating in state legislatures for homeschool freedom, working to ensure that homeschool graduates are treated equally, and that the laws protecting the rights of homeschool families are followed by government officials.
Will is a member of the following state and federal bars: U.S. Supreme Court, First Circuit Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, California, and District of Columbia. In June of 2023, Will was selected by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin to serve a four-year term on the Board of Visitors of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
Will and his wife, Rachel, have two sons, Dominic and Merrick, and live in Northern Virginia.

[post_content] => Mike was reared in South Africa, the son of missionary parents. His father was a bush pilot for a mission hospital among the Zulu people. Growing up in an area that teemed with remarkable and diverse creatures, he had a wide variety of fascinating experiences which helped to mold his future. After graduating from Oak Hills Christian College in Minnesota in 1979, he returned to South Africa to work for the National Parks Service in the Kruger National Park, which in some circles has earned him the nickname, “Ranger Mike”.

Following this, he began a career as an African wildlife artist. In 1985 he married Carrie Baum who grew up near Hershey. Carrie, a musician, attended Lancaster Bible College and was the executive secretary for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. In 1986 they went to South Africa as missionaries with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) and served by teaching at Durban Bible College. Since returning to the U.S., they founded a not-for-profit organization named Mission: Imperative! in 1995 - a ministry of teaching creation-oriented issues through a series of seminars covering a wide range of topics. The ministry necessitates travel, both in this country and abroad. Mike and Carrie have three children - Luke, John, and Laura.

Ginger Wayde is the grateful wife of Steve Wayde and mom to six amazing kids. Homeschooling for seventeen years has shaped and changed her in ways that nothing else could. Besides learning along with her children, Ginger serves on the CHAP board, hosts the weekly podcast Chattin' with CHAP, and directs stage productions for the local co-op where they live. She is looking forward to being together with the homeschool community again for this year's conference!

BARB BEIDEMAN and her husband Rick homeschooled both of their children all the way through. Their approach was eclectic and God blessed them with many wonderful opportunities to grow and learn in their homeschool adventure. Barb has served the homeschool community as a support group leader for the past sixteen years and as an evaluator for many years. She has a BA in elementary education from Grove City College, an MS in library science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and Orton-Gillingham certification. She enjoys providing encouragement and support to homeschoolers. Currently she also works as a tutor.

This session also includes a contrast of the results of a society that teaches evolution as opposed to the creation model.

Hal & Melanie Young - No Longer Little

The turmoil of the tween/preteen years between nine and thirteen usually catches parents by surprise. Diligent students become addled and distracted. Instead, learn to resist the temptation to lose it yourself and to shepherd our children through this challenging age at this funny and all-too-real workshop — and lay a foundation to make the teen years great!

You are not doing this by accident, and you, my friend, are not alone.

So many parents ask, “Why doesn’t my son enjoy reading? I want him to love it!” We look at ways to help your boys read better (because it’s hard to love it when it’s hard!), enjoy reading more, and find joy in stories and in research. From the parents of six adult sons, all of whom learned (eventually) to love reading! Many boys struggle with writing, too. They complain that it's too hard, that they can't think of anything to write, that they don't know why they have to do it anyway. Hal & Melanie homeschooled all six of their boys all the way through. Their boys learned to love writing and won writing awards. You can pull it off, too!

May you walk away full of anticipation for the great plans that God has for you. He’s not finished with you yet.

Mike Snavely - Grand Canyon – The Puzzle on the Plateau

This is one of the most breathtaking and perplexing sites in the world. Standard geological explanations for its formation are wrong, and most creationists have overlooked some major pieces of the puzzle. Amazingly, what carved the canyon also explains most of the fascinating geological features in the entire area (e.g. Monument Valley, The Petrified Forest, Canyonlands & Arches, Canyon de Chelley, etc.). Furthermore, they all formed very quickly! What happened?

Abby Banks - How Can I Teach My Child to Study the Bible if I Never Learned Myself?

Bible literacy is a growing concern in the church, even among those who grew up in Christian homes. Sometimes our kids know the Sunday School stories, but they don’t know how to read and study the Word for themselves. This session will discuss the case for Bible literacy, why it’s important to find resources that dive deeper than simply learning Bible facts, plus how families can start studying whole books of the Bible together – even if you never learned yourself!

*Daughters of Decision / Sons of Decision - A Dad's Vision for Family

According to Scripture, family is foundational in living life in alignment with God's design. From marriage to children to work to community, God has established the family to flourish from one generation to the next. So Dad, what is your vision for your family? That question was posed to me by my children many years ago. It's a good question. It's a thinking question for every Dad. Come join us for a discussion on this topic. You will be glad you did.

Hal Young - Dads and Donuts: Things My Dad Never Told Me

The Bible tells fathers to teach their children the things of God - and tells the kids to be sure and ask! But even if you come from a great family, there will always be things you have to learn on your own - from the sublime to the ridiculous. For a lot of us, we're trying to do things a little (or a lot) differently than our fathers did. Hal's dad was an only child and father of two. Come hear what Hal's learned raising eight homeschooled kids of his own and laugh with him about the strange turns our lives take when we take on this adventure.

10:45 am-11:30 am

Rebecca Spooner - Homeschooling for the Future

Homeschooling has changed drastically over the years—everything from who is doing it to why and how they go about it. What does the future look like? Do we just keep approaching the same things in the same ways, or is it time to adapt and flip the script? We aren’t raising our children for a world that was written about 20 years ago, we are raising them for the world 10 years from now. Let’s talk about proactive homeschooling and equipping a generation for what is yet to come.

Rebecca Spooner - I Feel Stupid

If you’ve ever heard your kids say this, it’s time to have a frank discussion about it. What is genius? What are we measuring ourselves up against anyway? Sometimes we need freedom from our own limited view of intelligence so that we free our children from the narrow-minded perspective of the world. Let’s unlock the individual genius in the kids we have been given—and in ourselves—as we lift the veil and choose to see the bigger picture together.

Bridget Anderson, Denise Ebersole, & Ginger Wayde - Equipping you with the Encouragement to Endure

Maybe you’re new to homeschooling or maybe you’ve been on this journey for years. One thing is true for no matter how much time you’ve logged as a homeschooling parent: we all need encouragement to keep going. In this session, we’ll talk about potential stumbling blocks to staying encouraged and staying the course. There are practical as well as emotional obstacles like sensing a lack of skills or knowledge, the tendency to compare ourselves to others, or even a lack of cooperation from friends and family. Please join us as we bring some of these issues into the light and assure you that you are not alone!

Hal & Melanie Young - Parenting in a Gender-Confused World

Preteens and teens crave connection and acceptance, while media of all kinds are telling them that identifying as a different gender or sexual orientation will solve all their problems. Even kids not tempted by these things are affected by the kids and culture around them, sometimes believing their parents are hateful or unloving in their response to that culture. Find out about the influences reaching out to our kids, learn how to respond in a way that will preserve your relationship, and get practical help in guiding them through the clamoring voices of our society.

Sattler College is choosing to see students as trustworthy investments for the Kingdom of God. Please consider joining us to learn how you can get involved and receive Entrustment Tuition.

3:00 pm-3:45 pm

Rebecca Spooner - How Do You Balance It All?

Let’s be honest: homeschooling is hard. But what makes it even harder is that it is not our only responsibility. We also have to be parents and homemakers while working at our jobs or being involved in our churches or ministries. How do we effectively balance all these important missions that we have been given? How do we prioritize and strategize what truly matters? If you’ve been feeling pulled in a million directions, this one’s for you.

Mike Snavely - Lost Secrets of the Ancient Civilizations

This session normally closes the seminars. With fascinating illustrations, it contrasts the evolution model with the creation model from a historic standpoint through a look at what many ancient cultures were able to accomplish. It contrasts some of these civilizations to our own.

Hal & Melanie Young - Your Family's Communication Culture

“He never talks to me.” “My teens are so disrespectful.” “I have no idea what she’s thinking.” “They’re so ugly to each other.” “I wish we could just talk.” We hear these things all the time from families. It’s easy to get into a cycle of communicating badly with each other, but it doesn’t have to be that way! The Word of God gives us a lot of really practical advice about communicating with one another, but it’s hard to know what that looks like in real life. Come learn how to turn that advice into action, change your family culture for the better, improve your other relationships, and laugh a little, too.
